Our step by step wallpapering service

Here’s how we deliver a professional wallpapering finish every time.

Step 1: Consultation and surface assessment

Good wallpapering starts with good preparation. We begin by discussing your vision to find out whether it’s bold geometrics, subtle textures, or classic florals. Then we assess your walls for imperfections such as moisture issues, or peeling wallpaper that need removal. Our wall assessment ensures that we get the correct paper and application for lasting wallpaper that looks great.

Step 2: Wall preparation

Before we can apply your new wallpaper, we will remove old wallpaper or loose paint. Where walls have cracks uneven surfaces we will fill cracks or even quote for plastering where required. Once the walls have been prepared we apply primer or lining paper in some cases. After ensuring that the walls are clean, dry, and dust-free we will apply wallpaper adhesive to the wall or paper depending on your option and required coverage. Our wall preparation provides a smooth sruface that provides lasting wallpaper.

Step 3: Measuring and cutting

We measure your walls precisely cut each strip with care. It’s often better to start in the middle of a wall and work towards the corners. Our measuring accounts for pattern repeats and tricky areas like corners, sockets, or coving. By allowing for a neat and tidy line without gaps between the seams.

Step 4: Adhesive application

Depending on the wallpaper type we will (paste-the-wall or paste-the-paper), we use the correct adhesive and technique to avoid bubbling and peeling. It’s essential to get even coverage, allow for soaking time and make sure the wallpaper face and skirting are clean at all times.

Step 5: Hanging and smoothing

Each wallpaper strip is aligned and applied with precision before cutting along the ceiling and skirting boards. We use smoothing tools to eliminate air bubbles and ensure tight seams. Our prefered tool is to use a self-levelling laser to indicate (green laser lines) that the paper is correctly hung before smoothing to the wall. This helps us to match patterns perfectly.

Final step: Inspection and clean up

We inspect every detail, tidy the room, and leave your home ready to enjoy your newly decorated walls. You’ll provide some care tips to keep your wallpaper looking fresh for years.

Generally, yes. But we do not reccomend applying a new layer of wallpaper over previous paper as it won’t provide a good finish and the wallpaper will not last as long. It’s always better to remove any previous layers of wallpaper.

Yes, wallpaper must be removed before plastering. If wallpaper is not removed and adhesion of the plaster not be suficient and will crack or come off the walls or ceiling. We offer a wallaper removal service and can give you a quote once we have had a good look at the condition of the walls when the wallpaper has been removed.

Allow at least 7 to 10 days for skim or multi-finish plastered walls to fully dry. This allows the moisture to fully evaporate and the surface to cure fully before wallpapering. Don’t rush as wallpapering over plaster too soon will result in bubbles, peeling wallpaper.
